Current trends in wedding cakes seem to be moving towards the classic and unpretentious. Understated white-on-white is the most timeless wedding colour scheme and will create a classic and unforgettable cake. Black and white is always a popular colour combination, use these striking colours with vivid patterns like piped scroll work or a mosaic effect for an eye-catching cake.

More and more cakes are making a statement about the significance of marriage by including (edible!) family photos or words of wisdom with varied scripts and texts. Or create a vintage-style cake by using sugar flowers with a modern twist, or by adding in a nostalgic bride and groom cake topper.

If you are on a shoe-string budget consider using your cake as your dessert or have individual cakes or cupcakes, beautifully wrapped, as your thank-you gift.

Choosing a wedding cake can be a daunting affair, there are just so many choices out there! I suggest picking three words that best describe what you want your wedding to be. For example: “classic, elegant and stylish” or “fun, fresh and funky”. Keep these words in mind as you are looking for the perfect cake, and use these words to guide you.
