Fashion tips: Dress colour and casual chic

Dress colour – As a guest at a wedding, is it inappropriate to wear a very similar colour to what the bridesmaid/Maid of Honour will be wearing?
Good question! We have asked the help of our styling expert, Marilize de Clercq, and this is her advice: :As a guest, I presume that you know the bride and how she would feel about it. My personal opinion is that, if possible, try not to wear the same colour as the retinue. Some wedding dress codes are colour-coded, but if not, be original and different. After all, you are not the bridesmaid and you don’t want to offend the bride! If you know that the bride is fine about your intension of wearing the same colours as her retinue, then of course you are safe here.”
Groom in jeans – We are not having your typical tux and tiara wedding. Neither of us are really the type. My dress is simple and slim fitting. I would like the groom to wear nice jeans, a fitted button up shirt, nice blazer and shoes. My mother is totally freaking out about the idea. Please give your opinion. The groomsmen will also be in the same jeans and a white button up shirt but without the blazer. My bridesmaids are in 60s style polka dot short dresses.
Our styling expert, Marilize de Clercq has great advice: Unconventional is the way to go and your wedding day is about… you. I would opt for dark monotone jeans with a great fit. Therefore the groom’s silhouette will be formal, but the actual garment informal. The groom and groomsmen should all wear smart Italian shoes for that stylish finishing touch.
For fun, try to repeat the bridesmaids’ polka dots either in a pocket hanky or socks. Another option is to line the cuffs or colours of your groomsmen’s shirts with polka dot fabric.
Remember to inform your guests of the dress code too! It is fun to give the ladies and gents each a specific dress code in your invitations. E.g. Ladies’ Dress Code: elegant and comfortable (high heels preferred). Gents’ Dress Code: Jeans and a blazer (no ties).
As for mom, take her advice with a good heart and attitude and then explain that this day is about your memories and how you would like to celebrate it and visually express yourselves.

Here’s a wedding dress that really takes the cake! Artist Lukka Sigurdardottir created a quirky wedding dress made out entirely out of cake. It might not be the most practical concept, but it is a remarkably creative interpretation of the wedding dress.

How did you meet?
Growing up in the same neighbourhood; hanging out in the same circle of friends; going to the same teenager parties; eagerly anticipating the next summer month to get a glimpse of Laetitia in shorts or a skirt… Hey, it was simply a matter of time before the Gods, not to mention the brides’ perseverance – she took ten months to convince him we were meant to be, brought us together…
How did he propose?
After nine and a half years together he finally decided to pop the question… (smile). He completely surprised her with a trip to Johannesburg (a trip she’s always wanted to...

The Bridal Fashion Week came to an end in New York last week offering a dazzling array of trends for the new season. Some of the most dominant looks include the unrestrained use of ruffles, draping and floral details, taking the classic romantic look to a new extreme. We all know that most brides spend many months dreaming up the perfect wedding gown, but finding the right outfit can be just as important for the parents of the bridal couple! Their outfits must not only match the wedding theme, but also look good together. It’s even better if parents can invest in formal attire that can be worn for other special occasions.
Our advice for parents of the bridal couple is to opt for harmonious styling, but without worrying too much about being perfectly coordinated. A tie is sometimes the easiest and most elegant way for the father of the bride to incorporate the colour...

How did you meet?
Not the most exciting of starts. I had been to a very dull client event and had hooked up with a friend later to try to find an exciting evening out! We ended up in a bar I never usually went to and were accosted (ok, so the 2 versions of this story vary!) by JP and his friends. Despite getting off to a rocky start (I thought he was Dutch and called PJ!) the rest is history!
How did he propose?
Despite one of the coldest weekends I can remember we had travelled to Cambridge for a post-Christmas weekend together. On the Saturday it was below freezing but JP insisted we should go for a traditional...
