Beat the summer heat
The summer months are undoubtedly the most popular time to celebrate a wedding. However, the weather can be scorchingly hot and it’s always a good idea to the strength of the African sun into account! Here are a couple of indispensable tips on how to keep things cool at a summer wedding:
• Choose a venue that has plenty of shade. If your ceremony or reception is indoors, be sure to check if there is air conditioning.
• Consider the time of your wedding. A late afternoon or early morning wedding might be a better option during the hot summer months.
• Offer guests plenty of refreshments at pre-ceremony and pre-reception drinks. We love serving glass bottles of homemade lemonade, ginger ale or iced tea. For simplicity, you can’t beat jugs of water with fresh mint.
• Pretty parasols like those available at
Aleit Shop are the perfect way for guests to protect themselves from the hot sun.
• Serve food that has a summery theme, such as chilled gazpacho soup for starters or sorbet for dessert.

With summer coming up it’s important to ensure that plenty of refreshments are available for your guests, whether at pre-ceremony drinks or simply as part of your planned menu. Water is a must (both still and sparkling) and can either be served in bottles or in big jugs. A sprig of mint or a few slices of lemon or lime can jazz things up a bit.
Of course, there are many other refreshments that are also great to serve; we love freshly made lemonade or iced tea served in glass bottles. For those who don’t drink wine, sparking grape juice is a good alternative.

Today most couples send out a save-the-date about six to eight months before their wedding, officially announcing their big day and making sure that the date is in everyone’s calendar. It’s also a great way to allow guests to start planning their travel arrangements early, if necessary.
Save-the-dates don’t usually have much information, just the date, venue and perhaps an RSVP request. More and more couples are sending electronic save-the-dates, which is not only convenient but also cuts costs. Whichever way you decide to send a save-the-date, make sure it looks good – it is, after...
